Shenzhen Airport joins hands with Qatar Airways to launch the "Shenzhen-Doha" cargo route

On March 29, a Boeing 777 freighter loaded with 88 tons of cargo took off from Shenzhen Airport to carry out the Shenzhen-Doha cargo route. This is the second regular international cargo route newly opened by Shenzhen Airport this year. After the air cargo development policy, the first international cargo route opened in Shenzhen will help to further unblock the air cargo channels between the Greater Bay Area and the world, and help stabilize the global supply chain and industrial chain.

Global aviation giant opens first cargo route in Shenzhen

It is understood that the "Shenzhen-Doha" route is operated by Qatar Airways Boeing 777 all-cargo aircraft, which operates once a week.

Qatar Airways' route network covers more than 160 international cities around the world, with a fleet of more than 200 aircraft, using freighters, Mini freighters, and passenger aircraft to serve more than 65 freighter destinations and more than 140 passenger destinations around the world. In the latest "World Air Transport Statistics Report" released by IATA (International Air Transport Association) in 2020, Qatar Airways ranked 3rd in the world for cargo, and it is also the first world-renowned cargo airline newly introduced by Shenzhen Airport this year.

Doha, which is connected by this route, is the capital and political, economic, cultural, and transportation center of Qatar, as well as a famous port along the Persian Gulf and an important cargo aviation hub in the Middle East. The opening of the Doha cargo hub will effectively help Shenzhen Airport extend its route network to Europe, Africa, Australia, South America, and other regions, and build an air cargo channel that radiates to the Asia-Pacific and connects Europe, America, and Australia. After the launch of the route, Shenzhen Airport's cargo route network can connect to Dubai and Doha, the two major cargo gateway hubs in the Middle East, and the number of cargo flights from Shenzhen to the Middle East has increased to seven per week.

Mr. Guillaume Hallex, Chief Cargo Officer of Qatar Airways Cargo, said: "Qatar Airways Cargo has always been concerned about the development of air cargo at Shenzhen Airport, which is the cradle of many world-renowned manufacturing companies. Shenzhen Airport is also an important part of the world's top 20. As a cargo hub, the opening of Shenzhen’s cargo route is a well-thought-out decision, and we have optimistic expectations for this.”

Shenzhen Airport's cargo business maintained growth in the first quarter
As an important cargo hub in the Greater Bay Area, in the face of the impact of the epidemic, Shenzhen Airport has made every effort to ensure the smooth flow of air cargo channels and stabilize the supply chain and industrial chain under the premise of strictly implementing epidemic prevention and control measures. Since the beginning of this year, Shenzhen Airport has newly opened Hanoi and expanded international all-cargo air cargo destinations such as Ho Chi Minh, Los Angeles, Osaka, and Seoul. So far, Shenzhen Airport has 35 international and regional all-cargo air cargo destinations, reaching five continents in the world.

As of the end of March, the freight business of Shenzhen Airport has maintained an overall growth trend under the influence of the epidemic. The latest data shows that as civil aviation enters the summer and autumn flight season from March 27, Shenzhen Airport is expected to have a maximum weekly flight volume of more than 8,000 after the flight season, of which the weekly cargo flight volume will exceed 850, an increase of nearly 20% over the same period last year.

The relevant person in charge of Shenzhen Airport said that the special support for the development of air passenger and cargo business in the recent policies related to the bailout of enterprises issued by Shenzhen will help to better stabilize market confidence and enhance the development momentum of air cargo business. Next, Shenzhen Airport will seize the opportunity of the policy introduction, actively connect with airlines according to market demand, guide the increase in the delivery of capacity in Shenzhen, vigorously expand the international cargo route network, smooth Shenzhen's external international transportation channel, and better help Shenzhen and surrounding enterprises. Products go out and sell globally, ensure the safety and stability of the urban industrial chain and supply chain, and enhance the urban economic power.
